Creative interactive experiences using music improvisation, movement, and art making to connect people, build resilience, and facilitate communication, self-expression, and insight.
In my work with teams I draw on my experience as a music therapist in designing interactive creative processes. I experience daily in my therapy work how musical improvisation and other kinds of joint creativity connect people, build resilience, and facilitate communication, self-expression, and insight, which can be helpful in these spaces. I can work with small or large teams, usually consisting of between 4-30 people. While a therapeutic space is confidential and aims to be "safe", corporate and wellness spaces may be more exposed and complex. As a result this kind of work is distinct from the music therapy group work I do, and the reflections shared are generally not as personal. However, in these settings I do aim to create a "safe enough" space for people to experience themselves and their colleagues differently, to express themselves creatively, to step outside of their comfort zones, and to access playfulness and spontaneity. This can open up new possibilities of approaching work and new ways of looking at problems. It can also help people to reflect on how they experience, engage with, and live with change, and encourage them to start exercising their capacity for collaborative creativity as a resource in the context of ambiguity and uncertainty. Improvisational experiences can also help teams to connect and communicate better and offer individuals opportunities to build self-awareness and assertiveness in their place of work.
In the context of applying my skills to support wellness for corporate events or in wellness spaces I draw on my capacity to attune musically to support co-regulation and relaxation. I may use singing, movement, song-writing, or other processes and equip groups with tools to use music in health-promoting ways.
